Abstract

The book discusses the physical fundamentals of jet propulsion, multistage carrier rockets, satellites, space rockets and ships, and also the perspectives of their development. It considers the problems of launching a satellite into orbit and the methods of orientating them in free flight; classifications and brief descriptions are given of the main types of contemporary American ballistic rockets and satellites for various purposes; a number of projects are mentioned on antimissile defense, interception satellites, reconnaissance satellites, navigation satellites, and satellites to be utilized for world-wide communications. Furthermore, the book discusses the feasibilities of effectively using ballistic and space rockets for peaceful purposes. Examples are given of the application of these rockets in meteorology, astronomy, geodesy, and cartography, for investigating terrestrial mineral resources, world-wide television broadcasting, communications, etc. All the numerical and factual material, and also the data on fuel, are presented according to information in the foreign press.
