DESIGN PROCESSES FOR HIGH SPEED FLIGHT,

Abstract

The paper begins with a review of earlier supersonic design problems, now mostly solved or alleviated; conclusions are drawn from this review, in the light of which the newer problems of heating are then examined. Current experience of temperature as a design parameter is discussed, especially in relation to flight factors, and it is concluded that the solutions to heating problems themselves will not be entirely without relief. New materials, and methods of presenting their properties at high temperature, are also discussed. (Author)
