GENERAL INTRODUCTION TO THERMAL STRUCTURES,

Abstract

A survey was made of the basic aerodynamics and materials data for the study of thermal structures. A review was also made of the basic structural theory that has been developed. Ways are suggested in which the designer should use the basic data and theory to decide on the general form of structure in any particular application. A special discussion is made on the new feature in structural design of combining strains due to temperature and strains due to load. Special emphasis is placed upon its effect on design requirements. (Author)
