MEASUREMENT OF THE AERODYNAMIC FORCES ON OSCILLATING AEROFOILS,

Abstract

Various techniques for oscillatory force measurements are considered in relation to their application to the measurement of the aerodynamic coefficients for a rectangular wing oscillating in modes of vertical translation and uniform pitch. It is shown that eight relevant coefficients are obtainable by any of the techniques described. The various corrections that must be applied to oscillatory aerodynamic force measurements are also discussed. The paper provides a basis for comparison of the various force-measuring techniques and should assist investigators in this field in determining the particular technique most likely to meet their requirements.
