MULTI-PARAMETER COMPUTATION OF THE REFRACTION INDEX WITHIN A BLAST BUBBLE.

Abstract

The deformation method for observations of shock phenomena is based on measurements of deformations of images caused by refraction of light within the flow. From such observations the density within the flow can be computed. In case of a blast bubble in air the evaluation of deformation measurements requires the solution of an integral equation. The report describes a numerical solution which is based on a least squares approximation to the (partly correlated) observations. A high flexibility of the evaluation technique is achieved by using a non-linear multi-parameter function for describing the refraction index profile. The report includes a description of a corresponding computer program. (Author)
