IMPACT OF TWO ELASTIC CYLINDERS: SHORT TIME SOLUTION.

Abstract

The short time response for the longitudinal impact of two elastic cylinders is determined from the behavior of the solution in transform space (Fourier, Laplace) for large values of the transform parameters. It is shown that this response is similar to that of an acoustic half-space in which the velocity of sound corresponds to the velocity of P waves in the elastic medium. (Author)
