LOW MAGNETIC SATURATION GARNETS.

Abstract

Four single crystal runs of gallium substituted BiCaVIG were conducted. The magnetization of the crystals increased from 545 to 677 gauss as the Ga2O3 substitution was increased from 0 to 3%. The gallium distribution in the crystals of a BiCaVIG crystal run is considerably more uniform than that observed in the gallium substituted YIGs. The effect of B2O3 additions on particle size and Fe2O3 content on remanent properties for polycrystalline BiCaVIG are described. Qualitative magnetostriction tests have been conducted on selected YIG, BiCaVIG and BiCaV(Al)IG compounds. The data indicates very little magnetostriction exists in the vanadium garnet compounds. Preliminary operating characteristics of an S band digital phase shifter containing polycrystalline toroids of BiCaVIG are described. (Author)
