SYSTEM OF CONTROLLING AZIMUTHAL INSTRUMENTS WITH THE AID OF A DIGITAL ARITHMETICAL MACHINE,

Abstract

There is an acute need for accurate and reliable automatic control systems for the regulation of real time of astronomic instruments, radiolocators, and other azimuthally mounted instruments. After discussing the requirements imposed on such control devices, the present author discusses a particular combined radiotelescope control system capable of operating with a low-speed digital computer utilizing a relatively small number of elements and exhibiting increased reliability. The operation of the system is described and a program for guiding and tracking is presented. The time diagram of one cycle of computer and control device operation is given.
