FINAL RESULTS OF CAMBRIDGE AND CGI PENDULUM MEASUREMENTS,
Abstract
Pendulum measurements taken with the Cambridge and Italian Geodetic Commission (CGI) apparatus are presented. After a short summary of the problems involved with the First Order World Gravity Net and the Standardization, the pendulum measurements are introduced with a general presentation of the actual situations of the observations with various apparatus that can be employed in the modern adjustments of the worldwide scale. The pendulum station descriptions and a summary of in-centre reductions are also presented. Three separate Annexes cover the Cambridge pendulum observations taken in 1963-64 on the EACL and NACL; the CGI measurements in Europe and Africa 1963-64 and the 1965 measurements in America. The accuracy, deduced from an internal basis, is about plus or minus 0.2 mGal for the Cambridge pendulums, while the CGI pendulums gave poor results in Africa and America: their employ will therefore be subject to further investigations (on statistical basis) to evaluate the obtainable contribution in the final adjustment.
