EFFECT OF WATER FLOW RATE ON CAVITATION EROSION,

Abstract

The dependence of the rate of erosion (I) as a function of the flow rate (v) is expressed by the relationship I = Av to the n power, where A is a power exponent. A table lists a number of theoretically and experimentally determined values of n, given by various authors in the literature. The data was supplemented by experimental data obtained by testing lead samples in a specially constructed hydrodynamic tube (diagram given). The cavitation results were observed with flow around a round shape with a diameter of 6 mm, placed in a rectangular test chamber. The results of these tests are shown in a series of curves. A relationship is established which shows that the value of the exponent, n, is not a constant, but that it varies with the transition from one stage of erosion cavitation to another. (Author)
