THE USE OF D(D, N)HE3 AND T(D, N)HE4 NUCLEAR REACTIONS TO CALIBRATE FAST-NEUTRON RADIOMETERS,

Abstract

A study is made of the calibration of neutron radiometers with energies close to 2.5 and 14 MeV, formed during nuclear reactions D(d, n)He3 and T(d, n)He4 respectively. A neutron NG-200 generator was used as the accelerator. It was found that in some cases, neutrons from reaction T(d, n)He4 can be used to adjust instruments intended to register neutrons from reaction D(d, n)He3. The calibration error of neutron radiometers for both reactions was calculated as being the sum of the mean square errors in the determination of the neutron flux density and the readings of the calibrated instrument, and was of the order of 5 to 10%.
