ALPHA AND BETA BANDS IN LITHIUM FLUORIDE,

Abstract

Optical absorption bands at 9.6 and 11.3 eV have been produced in LiF single crystals by x-ray irradiation at room temperature. As the result of an investigation of the thermal bleaching of these absorption bands, they were identified respectively with the alpha- and beta-bands which have not been previously reported in LiF. Significant differences are observed in the variation of these bands relative to the F-band depending on whether thermal or optical bleaching is used. (Author)
