SALIVARY PYRUVIC ACID CONTENT IN THE PRESENCE OF DENTAL CARIES,

Abstract

Parotid and mixed salivary pyruvic acid concentration varies directly with blood pyruvic acid concentration. For a given person, parotid and mixed salivary pyruvic acid concentration is 1/3 - 1/4 that in the blood. Salivary pyruvic acid concentration is essentially the same in parotid and mixed saliva. No definite correlation was established between intensity of dental caries and relative pyruvic acid concentration in the blood. (Author)
