COMPUTERS AND ADP PERSONNEL,

Abstract

This is a report about computer personnel based on a survey of literature collected over a one year period. The bibliography includes approximately one hundred fifty items, many of them from the military services, the Department of Defense, other federal agencies and Congress. The structure and regulations which control the use of automatic data processing equipment within the military services are reviewed briefly. Tables and graphs show the number of ADP personnel employed in certain categories by government agencies as well as projections for ADP personnel requirements. Military and civil service classification systems and job titles are reviewed and a thorough listing of civilian job classifications as well as military and civil service job classifications are included in the appendixes. Current work being done in ADP personnel testing as covered in collected literature is summarized and ADP training facilities are discussed. A list of approximately two hundred federally sponsored ADP training courses are listed in an appendix. Finally, problems of recruiting and retention of ADP employees are reviewed and factors affecting the problems are discussed, including tables of typical salaries for computer personnel.
