EROSION OF BLADES IN STEAM TURBINES

Abstract

The book is intended for technical personnel of design bureaus and plants and for persons concerned with problems of erosions; it may also be used by senior students in technical schools of higher education and technicians of corresponding specialties. It is a review of the present state of the problem of erosion of turbine blades based on papers published on different aspects of the problems in various countries. The causes and characteristics of the erosion of steam turbine blades, factors influencing erosion, and methods for preventing erosion are studied. The results of investigations of the erosion resistance of different metals are presented. The analogy between the erosion damage by cavitation and by impingement of drops on the surface is analyzed and the mechanism of erosion damage is investigated.
