ANALYSIS OF A 4-BAR MIRROR CUSP MAGNETIC FIELD BY MEANS OF AN ELECTRON ANALOG DEVICE,

Abstract

The theory of singly charged particles in a positive gradient magnetic field was demonstrated by use of a thin electron beam. Analytically derived orbits and beam shapes are experimentally verified in an electron analog device. A correlation between an electron orbit in a low magnetic field and a high energy proton in a high magnetic field is demonstrated analytically. The electron beam shapes in the presence of a 4-bar mirror cusp field derived in these experiments agree with the electron and proton orbital patterns derived analytically. (Author)
