CUMULATIVE FISSION YIELD AND HALF-LIFE OF 134SB,

Abstract

The cumulative fission yield of 134Sb produced in thermal-neutron-induced fission of 235U was experimentally determined and the half-life of the nuclide was measured. The cumulative fission yield and half-life are found to be 0.32 plus or minus 0.04 percent and 11.1 plus or minus 0.8 sec., respectively. From an examination of the isobaric yield curve obtained for the mass-134 chain, evidence is presented that isomerism may exist in either 134Sb or 134I. A nuclear level scheme for 134Sb which predicts two isomeric states for this nuclide is presented. From the experimental data, an upper limit of approximately 2 seconds is determined for the half-life of the proposed isomer. (Author)
