A GROUP AUTOMATIC AUDIOMETER IN A HEARING CONSERVATION PROGRAM.

Abstract

In a search for a single, multi-purpose device for making audiograms of various types, as required in a variety of situations, a group automatic audiometer was assembled. Fifteen such units were constructed on custom order for the U. S. Navy and two units were tested and evaluated by the New London group. The device has been officially designated the NMRL Group Monitoring and Screening Audiometer and it has been ascertained that this device performs successfully as: (1) a speech screening audiometer (group or individual); (2) a pure-tone screening audiometer (group of individual); (3) a recorded-speech monitoring audiometer (group or individual; or (4) a pure-tone monitoring audiometer (group or individual). The present report describes the component parts of this group audiometer and how it works, describes both preventive and corrective maintenance and indicates how the device can be used for the four types of requirements enumerated above, and also gives methods of scoring the results obtained.
