SOME TRENDS IN THE SUBMARINER SELECTION DATA FOR 1957-1958.
Abstract
Twelve groups of enlisted candidates for Classes 146-157 inclusive were individually examined in terms of attrition rates for physical, academic, temperamental, and other reasons. Presented in graph form by class, these data indicate (1) the size of the classes has been increasing; (2) the percentage falling for all reasons has, on the average, remained constant; (3) the percentage disqualified for academic reasons is decreasing; (4) the percentage disqualified for physical reasons is increasing; and (5) the percentage disqualified for 'temperamental' reasons decreased over the first five classes of the 12 considered in this study, and became virtually non-existent for the last 7 classes. Several explanations of the various trends are presented. (Author)
