REPORT ON CALIBRATION OF HECHT-SHLAER VISUAL ADAPTOMETER FILTERS.

Abstract

The Hecht-Shlaer Visual Adaptometer is the chief instrument used in the measurement of dark adaptation. Spectrophotometric transmittance standards for the filters used in these instruments are necessary if present day experiments are to be comparable to early studies. This paper reports the calibration of thirteen red and thirteen violet filters from early serial numbers of the Model I Hecht-Shlaer Visual Adaptometer which were measured on the Beckman Model DU Spectrophotometer. The average transmittances of these filters are proposed as standards upon which to base future procurement. (Author)
