SUGGESTIONS FOR SPECIFYING ACOUSTIC COUPLERS FOR CALIBRATING INSERT EARPHONES.

Abstract

The wide variety of insert-type receivers demands variability in the design of acoustic couplers which mate such receivers to a standard microphone. Seven such couplers are sketched and described. This information should be useful in specifying the acoustic performance of certain communication systems throughout the Department of Defense, which use in-the-ear receivers, such as those incorporated in helmets, attached to walkie-talkies, capsule systems which use a single in-the-ear transducer as both sender and receiver, and other variations of these systems.
