CALCULATION OF ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELDS IN THE FOCAL REGIONS OF A PARABOLOID RECEIVING OFF AXIS.

Abstract

The electromagnetic field due to the diffraction by a paraboloidal reflector of a plane wave incident off-axis is calculated at a number of points in the caustic regions. The field calculations are made by evaluating the associated Debye-Picht-Luneberg diffraction integrals with the aid of a high speed digital computer. Four cases are considered in which the incident propagation vector makes angles of 0 degrees, -10 degrees, -20 degrees, and -28.4 degrees with the paraboloidal axis. For each case the electric and magnetic fields calculated at points lying in two planes, one containing the paraboloidal axis and the other passing through the paraboloidal focus but perpendicular to the first plane. The points where the fields are calculated, relative to the intersections of the caustic surfaces with each of the two planes, are illustrated in a series of figures drawn to scale. (Author)
