LIGHT HOUSINGS FOR DEEP-SUBMERGENCE APPLICATIONS. PART II. MINIATURE LIGHTS.

Abstract

Pressure vessels used in hydrospace simulation facilities require internal illumination equipment for experimental studies that utilize photo-optical instrumentation or visual observation. Three miniature deep-submergence lights with power inputs of 500 or 650 watts at 120 volts were found to perform successfully at external hydrostatic pressures of up to 20,000 psi at ambient temperatures from 70 to 32F. Commercially available off-the-shelf glass tubing, pipe, and reaction flasks are utilized as the transparent envelopes. The designs are such that the light housings may be readily fabricated in a normally equipped machine shop. (Author)
