MOLIERE'S THEORY OF MULTIPLE COLLISIONS APPLIED TO THE SCATTERING OF AN ELECTRON BEAM INJECTED INTO A PLASMA.

Abstract

The basic scattering theory of Moliere is presented and discussed. This discussion follows previous papers on the subject, but provides missing steps, alternative derivations, and interpretations and precautions peculiar to plasma applications. A section on plasma diagnostics under multiple scattering domination is included. The intent of the paper is that of giving the experimenter the results he needs to accurately interpret observed electron beam scattering in terms of the diffuse plasma through which the beam has passed.
