QUANTUM THEORY OF MANY-PARTICLE SYSTEMS.

Abstract

A brief summary is given of research directed towards the investigation of the electronic structure of atoms, molecules, and solidstate by means of quantum-mechanical methods. Results of particular importance have been obtained with respect to infinite-order perturbation theory, upper and lower bounds to energy eigenvalues, properties of density matrices, and the general understanding of many-body systems and the correlation problem. Applications were carried out to study the properties of various systems, including light atoms, comparatively small molecules, very large molecules, alkali halides, and alkali metals. Large-scale computations were carried out on the CD 3600 electronic computer available at Uppsala University.
