EXPERIMENTAL GAS TURBINE ENGINE STARTER.

Abstract

Progress in a program to develop a compact, light weight, experimental gas turbine starter is presented. The starter being developed consists of a gas producer, a turbine, and fuel and air and ignition controls. The gas producer is a unique resonant combustor with multiple spiral tail pipes supplying intermittent hot-gas jets that impinge on the turbine blades. Work covered during Phase I of the program includes breadboard experiments, analysis, design of a prototype system, and prototype gas producer checkout tests. Results of tests are compared with design objectives and are used to calculate predicted performance of the prototype.
