A REVIEW OF CHARLES YOST'S 'THE INSECURITY OF NATIONS',

Abstract

Yost is concerned in his current book to set our long-range sights in the right direction, and to challenge us to work today on more immediate objectives, but definitely as steps toward that constantly clarifying goal further ahead. The immediate tasks are the depolarization and further thawing of the conflict between the Communist and anti-Communist alliance systems, the curbing of big power confrontations and the too easy resort to threats of force and military escalation as substitutes for more difficult but more constructive forms of diplomatic bargaining, the limitation of armaments, the progressive internationalization of economic assistance for the developing countries, and the enhancement, whenever feasible, of the peace-keeping capabilities of the existing world organization.
