EQUILIBRIUM TEMPERATURES ON LIFTING SURFACES AT MACH NUMBERS BETWEEN 5 AND 12 AT ALTITUDES FROM 80,000 FT UP TO 150,000 FT,

Abstract

Computations were made of equilibrium skin temperatures on a wedge surface for a range of free stream Mach numbers of 5 to 12, for both fully laminar and fully turbulent boundary layers. The range of surface pressure coefficient from 0 to 0.1 (which fixes the wedge angles) and altitudes from 80,000 to 160,000 ft were covered. The possibility of using the results for other slender bodies is discussed, and in addition some results are included, by way of illustration, in order to show the amount of heat which would have to be absorbed through a surface in a particular case in order to maintain it at a fixed skin temperature.
