Abstract

A biographical sketch of Aleksandr Mikhaylovich Lyapunov is presented. In the collection itself there are gathered papers on various questions of mathematics and mechanics. These papers, starting with compositions on the theory of buoyancy of solid bodies and proceeding to works on the theory of probability, pertain to a considerable degree to the initial period of scientific activity of A. M. Lyapunov and contain the solution of cardinal questions of mathematical analysis advanced by development of science itself. (Author)
