ELASTIC WAVE PROPAGATION IN ANISOTROPIC MEDIA.

Abstract

The propagation of plane elastic waves in an anisotropic material is investigated. Using a compact tensor notation, the theory is developed, such that the fundamental quantities necessary to describe wave propagation can be calculated. These include the velocities of the wavefronts of the acoustic beam, the particle displacement vectors, and the directions of the energy flow. A computer program, which numerically calculates these quantities, is included. (Author)
