ELECTROMAGNETIC WAVE-CHARGE INTERACTION IN CROSSED FIELDS.

Abstract

The purpose of the work on this contract is to investigate the interaction of electromagnetic waves and electrons in vacuum and solids. The design of a crossed-field amplifier which will incorporate the results of our noise studies has been initiated. The paraxial crossed-field gun design method developed by Rao is being carried on to obtain designs for magnetically shielded guns. A study of the practicality of deriving pulsed emission in crossed-field guns by optical stimulation using a laser beam is being conducted. Experimental studies of crossed-field, acoustic-wave amplification have been conducted and theoretical work has been done to tie this effect in with acousto-electric oscillations. Experiments have been performed to look for the solid-state-plasma waves which our theoretical work has predicted.
