RESEARCH ON SINGLE CRYSTAL ELECTRON EMITTERS.

Abstract

A compensation is shown to exist between the coverage Richardson constants for recrystallized W and Mo filaments, clean and with Th adsorbed, which may be explained by the existence of micropatches. The total thermionic emission from thorium adsorbed on single crystal W for theta = 0.6 is predominated by small patches near the <113> and <116> directions. The average desorption energy of Th from single crystal W changed from 165 to 180 kcal/mol for change of theta from 0.6 to 0. While the Sommerfeld model works well for thermionic emission from Mo, systematics are observed for other transition metals. (Author)
