SELECTION PROCEDURES FOR RESTRICTED FAMILIES OF PROBABILITY DISTRIBUTIONS
Abstract
The paper is primarily concerned with selecting a subset of k populations such that the probability is at least P star that the selected subset includes the population with the largest (smallest) quantile of a given order alpha (0 < alpha < 1). In particular a procedure is proposed and studied which is valid for any family of distributions with increasing failure rate on the average (IFRA). It is compared, asymptotically, with a distribution-free procedure proposed by Rizvi and Sobel.
