On the Determination of the Seismometer Damping

Abstract

Amplification of the Eaton method for the determination of the seismometer damping, to make it more easily applicable in cases of large periods or dampings. A graph is presented which makes it possible to determine the damping as a function of the time which delays the initial elongation (release test), or maximum one (tapping test), of the recorded response curve in decreasing to a certain fraction, Q, of its value.
