GRAPHICAL-DATA-PROCESSING RESEARCH STUDY AND EXPERIMENTAL INVESTIGATION

Abstract

This report describes the continuing development of scanning, preprocessing, character-classification, and context-analysis techniques for hand-printed text, such as computer coding sheets in the FORTRAN language. Both edge-detection and topological preprocessing are coupled with classification by a learning machine and used to process a large file of characters printed by a single author. The two systems are combined to achieve a recognition rate considerably better than our previous results.
