AN EVALUATION AND IMPROVEMENT OF THE PERIODATE METHOD FOR THE DETERMINATION OF MANGANESE IN TITANIUM AND TITANIUM-BASE ALLOYS.

Abstract

The periodate spectrophotometric method for manganese in titanium and titanium-base alloys in the ASTM Book, Part 32, prior to 1967, was considered to be too insensitive and slow. A method was developed to correct for these deficiencies, and is described in this report. This and another method were tested by the ASTM Titanium Task Force and the AMMRC method was selected to replace the existing standard photometric method in ASTM. This report shows the results obtained by the Titanium Task Force and a statistical study of the data. The detailed analytical method developed at AMMRC is appended to the report. (Author)
