OPTIMUM STRUCTURES FOR MINIATURE NI-CD SEALED CELLS AND BATTERIES.

Abstract

The report covers the research and development activities which have been directed towards the optimum structural design of miniature Ni-Cd cells and 6-volt batteries. Information covers an analysis of volumetric efficiency, weight distribution, stress on case, and plate structures. Results include data on various additives to sintered and pasted plates: didymium nitrate, cobalt nitrate; effects of cycling positive plates in carbonate electrolyte; effects of nickel and graphite additives to negative plates; evaluation of K60 and K90 cells after 1008 cycles at C/5 charge rate; cell pressures with pasted negative plates; numerous charge-discharge graphs and other supporting data.
