ENERGY SPECTRA OF SECONDARY ELECTRONS FROM METALS.

Abstract

A study has been made of experimental data related to the energy spectrum of secondary electrons. Data recently obtained at AFCRL as well as data from the literature have been included. It appears that almost all of the information is consistent with an isotropic internal flux of secondaries with the low energy part of its spectrum proportional to the inverse cube power of the energy measured from the Fermi level. It is also clearly shown that Baroody's free electron model of secondary emission is not consistent with the data since it predicts an internal spectrum proportional to the inverse square power of the energy.
