STATISTICAL AND METALLOGRAPHIC ASPECTS OF FATIGUE FAILURE MECHANISMS IN METALS.

Abstract

The report presents the results of a study which is in nature and intent a continuation of the work reported by Haagensen and Muggeridge in UTIAS Tech. Notes No. 112 and 111 respectively. A total of 253 OFHC copper specimens were fatigued under axial load and the results were statistically analysed separately as well as together with some of Haagensen's results. The results of Bloomer and Roylance were also analysed statistically. X-ray and metallographic examinations of the fatigued specimens were carried out to study microstructural changes due to fatigue.
