RADIOACTIVITY GROWTH-DECAY DATA: ANALYSIS BY APPLICATION OF THE LEAST-SQAURES METHOD,

Abstract

The method of least sqaures has been applied to the analysis of growth-decay counting data and time-dependent gamma-ray pulse-height spectral data obtained from mixtures of genetically related nuclides. From the counting data, estimates can be obtained of the parent activity at the time of start of product growth and of the relative detection efficiencies (i.e., the total detection efficiency of one nuclide relative to that of another). From the gamma-ray spectral data, estimates can be obtained of the spectrum of each nuclide in the decay chain.
