THE DIELECTRIC RELAXATION SPECTRA OF WATER, ICE, AND AQUEOUS SOLUTIONS AND THEIR INTERPRETATION. IV. A FREQUENCY-SWEEPING-BRIDGE ASSEMBLY WITH AUTOMATIC PLOTTING OF CAPACITANCE AND LOSS FROM 1 TO 200 HZ.

Abstract

A fully automatic, low-frequency dielectric measurement system has been developed that will extend the measurement facilities of the Laboratory for Insulation Research two decades below 100 Hz. The system automatically balances, sweeps from 1 to 200 Hz while retaining balance, computes the value of loss tangent, and plots loss tangent and sample capacitance vs. frequency by means of two external recorders. Accuracy of the output plots is within 1% plus or minus 1 pf for the sample capacitance and 10% plus or minus 0.0001 for the loss tangent. Samples from 100 to 1100 pf, and 0.0002 to 0.35 loss tangent can be measured directly, while accuracy criteria determine minimum or maximum values for substitution measurements. A run from 200 to 1 Hz can be completed in about 45 minutes. (Author)
