DEVELOPMENT OF SOLVENT RESISTANT SEALANTS.

Abstract

A flexible urethane lacquer sealant, applicable on aircraft surface as protection against corrosion was developed. It is based on a fluorinated polyether polyol, prepared by oxyalkylating a polyoxypropylenetriol with the glycidyl ether of 1,1,7-trihydro perfluoroheptanol. It contains 39% fluorine. The polyol is made into a prepolymer with tolylene diisocyanate and cured with 4,4'-methylenebis- (o-chloroaniline). The coating on aluminum has good resistance to paint removers and high flexibility at -65F. Work was also initiated to prepare a fairing compound from the same type of urethane, with good adhesion, solvent resistance and flexibility. (Author)
