EVALUATION OF UDIMET 630 FOR WTF60 TURBINE AND COMPRESSOR DISCS.

Abstract

The mechanical properties evaluation of Udimet 630 in barstock and sheet forms revealed exceptionally high tensile and creep strengths from R.T. to 1300F. However, because of tensile and creep notch sensitivity, heat treatment studies were performed which led to a revised solution treatment at 1850F. This change applied to disc forgings minimized notch sensitivity but because of vendor reported difficulties in eliminating notch sensitivity in all heats of Udimet 630 material given solution plus aging heat treatments, it appears that the alloy must undergo additional development for unqualified acceptance. This alloy was found to be amenable to Mini-processing as revealed by mechanical properties data obtained on a disc forged within the Mini-processing temperature range followed by an aging treatment.
