DIFFUSION STUDIES IN REFRACTORY MATERIALS.

Abstract

Progress is described in a study of the effect of extrinsic influences on diffusion rates in ceramic oxides. The objectives of the program are to (1) determine the origin of enhanced grain boundary diffusion, (2) determine the effect, if any, of imposed stress on diffusion in single crystals, and (3) determine rates for specific impurity cations including some whose segregation and precipitation is known to influence transport and mechanical properties.
