SHALLOW WATER TURBIDITY STUDIES.

Abstract

Hydrophotometers were used to measure the light transparency of water near the USNEL Oceanographic Research Tower in an attempt to correlate turbidity with time, temperature, and biological aspects. It was found that maximum turbidity frequently occurs at or near the level of maximum temperature gradient. Turbidity was shown to be caused principally by concentration of plankton. It is recommended that additional studies be conducted in other areas for comparison with data from Mission Beach. (Author)
