ANTENNA PROPERTIES IN THE PRESENCE OF ANISOTROPIC IONIZED MEDIA.

Abstract

A detailed quantitative experimental and theoretical investigation was conducted of: (1) The propagation of electromagnetic waves in an anisotropic plasma along the direction of an applied static magnetic field. (2) The 'mismatch' or power reflected by an anisotropic layer of plasma. (3) The influence of a magnetic field on the radiation from a horn antenna situated behind a layer of plasma. The magnetic field in the experiment was along the principal direction of radiation of the antenna which is normal to the layer of plasma. Good agreement between measurements using various polarization of the electromagnetic field and theory was in general obtained.
