STRESS-CORROSION CRACKING OF ALUMINUM ALLOYS. A REVIEW OF THE GERMAN LITERATURE,
Abstract
The phenomenon known as stress corrosion has been defined in several ways. For example, the definition which has been accepted in England is restricted to static stress: 'The term 'stress corrosion' implies a greater deterioration in the mechanical properties of the material through the simultaneous action of the static stress and exposure to corrosive environment than would occur by the separate, but additive action of these surroundings.' This definition includes stress-accelerated corrosion, but excludes corrosion fatigue. (Author)
