CATASTROPHIC PITTING OF ALUMINUM-ALLOY (ALMAG 35) CASTINGS DURING SULFURIC ACID ANODIZING,

Abstract

A problem concerned with the catastrophic pitting of aluminum-alloy (ALMAG 35) castings while being anodized is described. A method for overcoming this problem makes use of recognized preanodizing cleaning techniques. A proposed mechanism for the encountered corrosion is presented as an explanation to this problem.
