SOME DATA ON THE STRUCTURE OF THE UPPER MANTLE OF THE EARTH AND GENERAL SCHEME OF ISOSTASY.

Abstract

The translation is a study of the problem of the structure of the deep parts of the earth's crust and mantle. The authors of this work made a joint analysis of gravimetric and seismic studies of the terrestrial globe in order to specify the most general correlations between the thickness of the earth's crust, the depth of occurrence of the Mohorovicic discontinuity, the relief and the value of the gravity anomalies in the Bouguer reduction. For the investigation of the causes of the observed deviations from the indicated general laws, methods of comparison between seismic and gravimetric data were worked out and a calculation of the density of the upper layers of the mantle at different points of the terrestrial globe was performed. For this work the 1:22,000,000 and 1:6,000,000 world and continental maps were used with the summary of materials on seismic investigations of the structure of the earth's crust by the deep seismic sounding method and other methods.
