HIGH SPEED MOTOR. PHASE I. INVESTIGATION STUDY. PHASE II. DESIGN STUDY.

Abstract

A feasibility study was undertaken and preliminary design data were prepared for a 70 HP, 10,000 RPM single-rotation, 3000 volt motor. The possibility of making sliding contact to a shorted commutator was investigated. A 4 in. silver bearing copper ring with 100 slots spaced equally around the periphery and face to simulate a commutator surface was used, which was driven at 20,000 RPM. Studies were made in air and various other gases. Basic design considerations were studied and prepared for a motor as specified above.
